Hiring a second photographer to shoot your wedding, yes or no ?

For 15 years now I’ve been working alone most of the time. But having if you’re having a wedding with +150 guests, an extra photographer for your wedding day should be something on your mind if… So here are some good reasons to book a second photographer or an entire team to cover your wedding.

1/ You are tying the knot in early spring, autumn or even winter.

Needless to say that the majority of weddings are happening during the summer season when there is plenty of light available. But if you chose a season when the sun sets early and doesn’t allow you a long cocktail for example, having a second photographer to shoot your wedding could be an option to consider.

The second shooter could do group shots, a part of the wedding photos that can take a lot of time, while your main photographer can focus on candid photos and tastefully picked pieces of decor, flowers and more artistic shots…

2/ You want to take the time for your couple photos

Surely, you don’t want to rush your wedding couple photos and take a real moment. Vary the angles, the spots you want to hit on the venue you chose carefully. Take the time to be at ease and not stressed out. During that time, the second photographer would start shooting candids and decors. Your main photographer could pick up where they left off just after the couple session.

3/ You want to have a lot of candid photos

You invited a lot of friends and of course you want to have as many photos of them as possible. That way the amount of portraits of you and your guests will be increased.

4/ You have multiple things happening at the same time

Having a team by your side.

Luxury weddings or events are big productions if I may say. Often, there are multiple things going on at the same time. If you want to be thorough, you will need a second photographer and maybe a whole team of photographers. If you want to get ready while the decor is being set and the first guests are arriving and maybe chilling by the pool with a cocktail. You will at least need 3 photographers to cover it all.
